That's not the point of the blog. The point I wanna make is Gallo. The Knicks have redundant talent at his position. That's the same position that Carmelo Anthony plays if anyone is paying attention. Wilson Chandler has awakened this year. He's now what Isi...ur I mean all of us wanted him to be. He really is a mix between what Richard Jefferson used to be and a few notches under what Shawn Marion used to be. He's also the new Latrell Sprewell. Not in infamy, but in role with the team. Who's playing the role of Allan Houston? Wilson Chandler has played 3 positions since D'antoni has been around. Gallo has only played Carmelo Anthony's position.
I keep saying Carmelo Anthony's position because the majority of Knicks fans are dying for him to smile for the cameras at Msg. It makes you wonder if winning is really the goal for fans. Winning is what the Knicks have been doing. They're at a point now where they need to think about patching up holes, not overturning the roster just to get a player the Knicks already have filled twice already.
Now if Wilson Chandler was hurt would my blog be titled "Hate to kick the Mayor when he's down"? Maybe...but he isn't hurt and he has been the most consistent Knicks not named Amar'e Stoudamire. Aside from scoring the brother is averaging about 2 blocks a game. I'm not knocking Gallo because he's been playing well. More times than anything the kid has to be kicked in the nuts before he wakes up. Some days he disappears.
D'antoni has been calling Gallo's injury a time to experiment. Experiment with a more traditional line up? Trying to decide if getting Carmelo is even worth it? What we do know from this experiment is Wilson Chandler is a force at small forward. Amar'e owns any power forward you put in front of him. Ronnie Turiaf's intensity and intangibility is sorely needed to start games because he takes pressure of other players to be something they are not. When Ronnie Turiaf threw his shoulder into the chest of that spurs player after he dunked it all the proof you need.
Again *beating that dead horse*....
....how do these Knicks get better?
They need to look no further than this Spurs game and then review tape of previous games. Knicks need help inside, whether it's a rebounder/shot blocker/finisher or a scorer/rebounder. They also need a true prototypical nba shooting guard. Landry Fields at this point is a rotation Guy but the Knicks need a polished scoring threat at that position. Gallo might need to be shipped for the overall improvement of the team. Again before any Gallo purist beat me up...what position does Gallo play again? You might want to read this blog again.

ReplyDeleteAs of now, Gallinari's game is that of a role player, so that why it is pretty easy to replace him in the line up. He's still young, but he definitely has some work to do to complete his game. As long as Bill Walker and Shaun Williams can continue to put the ball in the basket, sorry to say but, Danilo will not be missed as much as expected.

I say keep the starting line up like yesterday and have Gallo be part of the bench that way he will have to assert himself to provide points for the second unit. Chandler is best in small forward. Let Gallo be his reliever.
ReplyDeleteCan I ask a dumb questions - why cant we start Gallo at shooting guard?
ReplyDeleteHe would dominate on offense. He'll be able to shoot over every 2 guard or back em down. Draw early fouls on the opposing teams shooting guard sending them on the bench.
Would he be that much of a liability on D?
Loving the feedback!!!
ReplyDeleteBtw Gallo to the bench or at shooting guard makes sense. I mean it always seemed to make sense for Chandler. Knicks need a big badly though
Gallinari can't start at shooting guard because he is too slow to guard other shooting guards in the league. Can you imagine if Gallo had to guard Kobe, Wade, etc. He'd get torn to shreds...

LET'S STATE THE FACTS
ReplyDeleteFrom postingandtoasting.com
"The Knicks are currently 5th in offensive efficiency, scoring 107.9 points per 100 possessions. Gallinari plays a huge role in that even if it doesn't always appear to be the case. Why's that? His individual offensive rating, the points he produces per 100 possessions, is 123.5. To put that into perspective, here's what the other starters produce:
Star-divide
* Amar'e Stoudemire - 107.8
* Wilson Chandler - 115.4
* Landry Fields - 116.6
* Raymond Felton - 110.2
Gallinari's is the highest on the team and his contributions on offense will be missed considerably with the extended minutes Ronny Turiaf will see. Aside from his three point shooting and ability to spread the floor, Gallo's also second on the team in free throw attempts per 40 minutes behind Amar'e. Needless to say, Chandler and Shawne Williams will have major shoes to fill."
gALLO ALSO SCORE MORE PTS PER SHOT THAN ANY OTHER kNICK. He is close to 1.5 pps, Amare is 1.4, Fields is 1.4. James, Kobe, DeWade, Mello, Dirk, are all below 1.5 pts per shot.
Gallo is incredibly efficient.
The Knicks are very improved, can win without their 4th best option, but one game is one game.
And, Gallo is 22 and has definite star potential. As ABC broadcaster stated, his skills are off the charts. Even his D is way better than many think. Remember when teams iso'ed his man. Doesnt happen anymore does it?
He is the most scrutinized decent, young player that the Knicks have ever had. Look at his development, performance and impact. On schedule.
He's 6 ten, can shoot the ball, is a smart passer, good driver, draws fouls and accepts being a full time decoy to open the floor for other Knicks.
"D'antoni has been calling Gallo's injury a time to experiment. Experiment with a more traditional line up?" QFT
ReplyDeletehaha. who knew playing wil and stat at their natural positions will bring about four quarters of pure beast mode. :D
not that i didnt enjoy mda midget ball. lol. but sign me up for traditional from here on forward.
my position on gallo is.. lets not throw out the gallo with the bath water. gallo can be the 6'10 bench relief that amar'e has been needing.
Individual offensive rating? So if we go by that then Gallo is the best offensive player in the league. Better than Lebron, Kobe, and Wade? Caca doodle doo.
ReplyDelete6'10" relief of the bench? Makes sense to me and it prevents a trade. Knicks still need a bigman and guard help
i agree with EnySpree.. numbers alone DO lie. gotta see games for oneself to see what the ratings mean. remember when fans were comparing numbers between lee and stat.. cue come`on son pic.
