Maybe Plan B is the new Plan A... Again

Anybody else sick of this Melo madness? Anyone want make the eerie comparison to the Lebron douchebaggery from the summer? This time the "villian" isn't the player, its a whole franchise! The Denver Duggets went about thus whole situation the wrong way. Melo didn't sign his extention. Its in their best interest to try to get value for him so they don't get embarrassed like Cleveland and Toronto did. Did you taste the sarcasm in that last sentence? Years ago a team would just get what they could immediately just to avoid the media frenzy. Its not the best example, but the Knicks dumped Ewing off fairly quickly. They got what they thought was best for the team. Best part was all parties were able to move on. Melo is in his prime. He gave them 6 great seasons. As looking as they get decent value, why not make this easier and just trade Melo to where he wants to go?

Which brings me to my point? Do the Knicks even need to trade half the team to get Melo? The Knicks aren't strapped for scoring and they already have at least 5 players that can fill in and play small forward and play it well. In the Knicks last game against Utah, Shawne Williams and Billy Walker combined for 48 points filling in for the injured Gallo. Just want to mention Gallo is small forward and the fact that Wilson Chandler is a natural small forward playing out of position...Yeah so...Getting back on track, this Melo trade to the Nets might be a blessing in disguise.

Why have the Knicks been so successful this year? Its not just because they signed Amar'e. The players the Knicks picked up in the off season share the same dog mentality. They complete every game and show the same determination on offense as they do defense. The Knicks don't need a trade that could quite possibly destroy the team chemistry. What they do need is rebounding help and experience in the backcourt. The Knicks have assets that are not part of the rotation that could be flipped to achieve this. You mean to tell me Anthony Randolph, Roger Mason, Eddy Curry and Azubuike's contracts can't pull some roster upgrades?

Question for my diehards: Would you trade Eddy curry's and azubuike's contracts for Hinrich and Blatche??? Washington needs the money for their rebuild .Knicks need the talent. Hinrich would take alot of pressure off Felton and would add experience and depth to the bench. Blatche is insurance for Amar'e and adds depth inside to mix either in front or behind Ronnie Turiaf. *Bong Bong*

  1. I would do that trade, but not until the offseason. Save the cap room to see what comes up, and if that's still there without hampering us, I think I'd do it. Its just a lot of years to commit to Blatche.

But I'm with you, I'd rather get the pieces we need than the one overpaid star that we don't

  2. well adam...that doesn't make any sense! if they wait until the offseason when curry's and buike's contracts come off the books, they get nothing in return! the knicks are in a very good position right now...and the playoffs a very likely! but then what? first round exit? in order to compete in postseason we need depth...and we don't have none! i think its a good deal...kind of!

  3. Hey guys just sparking convo with my readers...
Melo is not the end all. Alot if fans are saying Melo or burst like the knicks aren't winning games convincingly. My Washington deal is just an idea. If you add Anthony Randolph and take back a filler thus deal could easily get done. Again like my blogs about certain Sacramento big men, there are plenty of deals to be made to improve the team

  4. I am a Knick fan living in DC. That trade is bad for both teams. The Wiz already have cap flexibility and low salaries so they have no need for a salary dump like you propose. Plus Blatche is a low IQ player with bad work habits and plays no defense. The knicks need a Camby type player not Blatche. Hinrich would kill the knicks cap flexibility next year. Just bad all the way around.

And, the premise of your article is flawed.Melo is a transcedent player (top 10 talent)and you trade for him if you can give up 2 of Gallo, Chandler and Fields, Randolph 1st rounder and the 2014 1st rounder. Melo know she cannot win in NJ/BK and can only beat the heatles if he pairs up with Amare. Its up to Melo to hold firm on extension only to knicks. I dont know if he is risk averse but I hope he plays it out bc I am confident he will get extension with Knicks in the end. Mark my words, Melo will not extend in NJ bc it makes no sense. This aint over yet.

  5. I can understand Melo's concern about waiting till the end of the season, but I think he is forgetting about the NON NBA money he AND Amare can make in marketing and endorsements. NY with 2 stars!?!?! Madison Ave will be all over them and Melo can make 20 Mil per year off the court. He needs to stop worrying about about 3 years 65 mil and think about 3 years 40 mil, endorsements and a possible championship in NY which will lead to MORE endorsements!!!
